Under 14s KYL Match Report

Under 14s KYL   2-0    Margate

Cool as a Kai Coomber...

Bredhurst grabbed all three points today in a evenly fought contest at Central Park. The home team made their intentions clear with a couple of early efforts by their striker, one wide, one over the top. Most of the first half play was in Margate's half with them only having a couple of chances, one effort firing well over Bredhurst's goal. Adam Harvey prevented Margate from a certain equaliser with a well timed tackle preventing the visiting striker from making the most of his elusive run. Bredhurst opened the scoring on 30 minutes when a through ball by Harry Prentis squeezed under the Margate defenders foot and Kai Coomber was there to coolly fire the ball over the keeper into the top of the goal. 1-0 Margate did cause Bredhurst a couple of scares late in the first half when a couple of corners weren't cleanly dealt with, but the teams went in at half time with the home team 1-0 to the good.
The second half started with Margate on the front foot and for the first quarter of an hour had Bredhurst pinned in their own half. Corners on 3, 8, 9 and 14 fortunately came to nothing. Five minutes later and Coomber was close to doubling his tally after picking up the ball just inside Margate's half and going on a mazy run. His final shot not quite reaching its target. A minute later and Bredhurst did get their second when Oliver Everett picked up the ball out to the right and whilst trying to get a deflected corner off the defender with a powerful shot, he somehow managed to reach the net, with the keeper unable to keep it out. 2-0
Margate ended the game as strongly as they had started the second half but Bredhurst stood strong for all three points and a 2-0 victory. Each and every player from the squad played their part in this victory today. Well done!
